Places visited
Dallas and Fort Worth, Graham, Amarillo, Lubbock, Van Horn, Terlingua, Marathon, Fredericksburg
Covering an area almost three times the size of the UK, few visitors to Texas get to experience the true variety of its expanse. This itinerary takes you away from the sky-scrapper filled cities into the wild rugged landscapes, the charming historic towns and the lingering history of the Wild West: the foundation Texas was founded on.
You can stroll historic Main Streets, hike through untouched natural beauty, wander through vineyards and ride on horseback through the endless plains. And while Texas is a big state, you’ll find the distances to travel between locations comfortable and manageable with scenic roads through epic landscapes and distances to travel not more than 2 to 4.5 hours from your next place to stay.
You’ll start in Fort Worth where you’ll find Western culture at its most authentic, before spending two nights on a secluded ranch. Then you’ll cross into the Panhandle, stopping in one of the most iconic stops on Route 66 – Amarillo. From there you’ll spend a night in the Texas High Plains enjoying the local viticulture, before continuing to the tremendous natural beauty of West Texas. From the high peaks of the Guadalupe Mountains to the breath-taking landscapes of Big Bend National Park, you’ll even get to witness some of the darkest night skies in America. You’ll end your stay in the lush vineyards and old-world charm of Fredericksburg, Texas’ wine country, before driving to Austin for your flight home.
