Sustainable Travel

Sustainability and the desire to be a responsible business has always been in our DNA: our passion for the people and places we visit underlies everything we do, which is why we strive to have a positive social and environmental impact at home, in the regions that we operate and for the planet.

Our Pledge

We take sustainability seriously by measuring the impacts of our business against key UN sustainable development goals, and seeking improvements throughout. We aim to act as a catalyst for change within the Americas, helping to protect and have a positive impact upon the natural environment, communities and cultures that make the continents so special.

We are proud to have been recognised for our ongoing work in sustainability by specialist travel association AITO, which named us one of the first travel operators to win the maximum Sustainable Travel Award.

Our sister company Journey Latin America has received the top British and Colombian Chamber of Commerce Responsible Business Award (SMEs) in recognition of our sustainable journey so far.

On the Ground

In our efforts to support responsible and sustainable travel, we have developed policies in key areas of environmental protection, animal welfare and local communities.

In practice, this means placing sustainability front and centre in our operations – from choosing sustainable accommodation and excursion options to reducing energy use and plastic waste, protecting animal welfare, and supporting First Nations and Native American communities by working with indigenous-owned businesses and visiting their territories.

We also partner with social and environmental charities and we’ve nurtured strong relationships with our local suppliers who share our vision to support communities through fair employment and responsible energy use.

Over the years, some of the local charity projects our sister company Journey Latin America has supported include the LATA Foundation, Projecto Pintando, Oncafari Jaguar project and the Galapagos Conservation Trust.

Climate Action Plan

There is no denying the negative carbon impact caused by international flights and we recognise the situation is far more complicated than simply offsetting emissions. As part of our climate commitment, we are a proud signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. We pledge to deliver an aligned plan to cut tourism emissions in half by 2030, and aim to reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050.

Our company-wide Climate Action Strategy follows a five-step pathway to Measure, Decarbonise, Regenerate, Collaborate and Finance.
