The region is world-famous for seafood – lobster in Halifax, chowder in Lunenburg, and oysters on Prince Edward Island are just a few delicious specialities to savour. The whale-watching is one of the biggest draws with the largest populations of humpbacks in the world and a dozen species of whales breaching out of the waters.
Nova Scotia has some historic towns – Lunenburg, renowned for its colourful colonial buildings, and capital Halifax with its sweeping waterfront and maritime heritage. Nearby Kejimkujik National Park has beautiful lakes, rivers and forests with hiking trails and ancient canoeing routes, while you can learn the history of the French Acadian culture at Fort Anne and the Fortress of Louisbourg.
The Bay of Fundy is a natural wonder with the highest tides in the world offering incredible rafting. The historic city of Saint John in New Brunswick, with its Victorian architecture and the famous Reversing Falls Rapids, is a great base for exploring the bay.
Cape Breton frequently tops polls as one of the most beautiful islands in the Americas, and the world-famous Cabot Trail is one of the world’s most spectacular drives.
Canada’s smallest province Prince Edward Island has fantastic beaches, breathtaking coastal scenery, and historic capital Charlottetown, known as the birthplace of Canada.
