Washington DC and Capital Region

Holding the seat of America’s government, the Capital Region is full of cities, towns and places that have made their mark on the country's past and the present.

View Holidays

Comprising the capital Washington, DC and the states of Maryland and Virginia, the Capital Region is home to some of the USA’s most treasured historic sites. From national monuments and world-class museums to spectacular national parks and blissful beaches, and delightful dining and shopping, there’s so much to discover in this historic region of the United States.

Renowned for being culturally and historically rich, the Capital Region holds the many storied sites where America’s history was made – from Colonial settlements in Virginia, to epic battlefields in Maryland and the numerous monuments and memorials in DC. Soak up the urban energy of the two major metropolises, Baltimore and Washington, DC – the latter home to some of the world’s best museums – and explore the quaint, charming downtowns of cities like Annapolis in Maryland or Alexandria in Virginia. You’ll be immersed in the archetypal “Main Streets” of America, while enjoying the one-of-a-kind shops, live music venues, restaurants and bars. Getting around is also easy with a subway system connecting all three parts of the region.

The Capital is full of natural beauty and opportunities for year-round adventure are to be found outside of every city. Start with a drive along one of 13 scenic byways in the region, like the idyllic Blue Ridge Parkway. Go horse-riding along the beaches of Assateague Island, hike in Shenandoah National Park, windsurf in Chesapeake Bay or sit back and relax on Virginia Beach.

Taste the unique culinary culture that makes up this region as you go. Fusing international cuisines with the rich flavours of the American South and focusing on the fresh local seafood, you’ll be in for a treat no matter where you eat. The region is also home to more than 300 wineries dotted throughout Virginia and a weekend break at a vineyard is a truly luxury stay.

A trip to the Capital Region also isn’t complete without a spot of shopping, and as a major US shopping hub, there’s no better place to spend some dollars. Nationally known for big bargains as well as designer fashions, you can shop in everything from upscale shopping centres and outlet malls to luxury boutiques and antique stores.
