Situated on the doorstep of Big Bend National Park, Terlingua is an authentic “living” ghost town, offering a fascinating mix of historical ruins and Western culture.

Established as a mining town around the turn of last century, Terlingua is most famous for its annual International Chili Cook-Off and its accommodation for visitors to Big Bend National Park.  

Offering scenic desert landscapes and impressive authentic ruins, visitors can explore the remnants of the town’s mining era through abandoned buildings and cars and a historic cemetery that could easily be straight out of a film set.  

Due to its proximity to the Mexican border, visitors will find excellent Mexican food here, as well as world-famous chili, served at the old Starlight Theatre which is now a popular local haunt and restaurant. Local shops delight and for those passing through on a weekend, you’ll find the locals congregate with their guitars and fiddles to share stories and music.
