Cape Breton Holidays 2026 & 2027

Dramatic highland hikes, breathtaking coastal drives, thriving Celtic cultures – follow Alexander Graham Bell to Cape Breton, one of Canada’s most spectacular islands.

View Holidays

Cape Breton frequently tops polls as one of the most beautiful islands in the Americas, and it’s easy to see why great inventor Alexander Graham Bell chose to make his home here.

The island’s clifftops and highlands have wonderful trails for hikers, cyclists and motorists alike. The world-famous Cabot Trail looping around the island is one of the world’s most spectacular drives, while routes such as the 92-km Celtic Shores Coastal Trail from Port Hastings to Inverness, and the panoramic views on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park are best appreciated on foot or in the saddle. Meanwhile, the brackish Bras d’Or Lake at the heart of the island is a haven for sailing and kayaking.

The distinctive Cape Breton accent can sound more Irish than Canadian, and the island has fiercely proud Celtic traditions, on display at the famous Celtic Colours International Festival, one of the world’s biggest Celtic celebrations.

A historical highlight of Cape Breton is the Fortress of Louisbourg on the south-east coast, the largest historical reconstruction in North America. The site recreates the life of French settlers in the early 18th century with soldiers and townsfolk putting on entertaining displays among the original fortifications and village.

Don’t miss the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck, where the great inventor lived for many years.
