Things have changed since Dawson’s heyday – it’s more a town than a city nowadays. However, its historical attractions and busy summer events calendar make Dawson an interesting base to explore the surrounding Klondike region.
The best place to learn about the history of gold in the Yukon is Dawson City Museum. Other highlights of the town include the world’s oldest casino, Diamond Tooth Gerties, the old paddle steamer SS Keno on the docks, and historic buildings such as the Palace Grand Theatre and the Commissioner’s Residence. You can learn how gold was mined at Dredge No. 4 Historic Site and try your hand at panning in nearby Bonanza Creek.
