Mayan Dude Ranch

Mayan Dude Ranch is the sort of Hill Country escape that feels rooted in the landscape. Set on 348 private acres just outside Bandera, it’s a long-running, family-owned property where days move at an unhurried pace and the views seem to stretch endlessly across the cedar and oak-covered hills.

Accommodation is spread across a series of lodge-style rooms and cabins, each with its own character. Interiors lean into Texas warmth: natural timber, soft leather accents, handmade quilts and porches designed for watching the early light settle across the valley. Expect all the essentials – comfortable beds, fireplaces, microwaves – but the real luxury lies in the stillness outside your door.

Mornings typically begin with coffee on the porch and the sound of horses saddling up for the day’s rides. Trails wind through quiet pasture and pockets of woodland, offering gentle routes for beginners and slightly more adventurous paths for confident riders. When you’re not on horseback, you can join a hayride, cool off in the pool or wander the property’s open spaces, where the silence is broken only by birdsong.

Meals are hearty, sociable and served family-style in the main hall. Expect classic Texan cooking – slow-smoked brisket, fluffy biscuits, peach cobbler – often accompanied by live music or light-hearted evening entertainment.

A mile from Bandera’s historic main street, Mayan Dude Ranch offers an easy base for exploring the self-proclaimed Cowboy Capital of the World, yet it remains very much its own world: calm, spacious and steeped in the rhythms of Hill Country life.
