The capital city of Saskatchewan has elegant colonial architecture, interesting museums, urban parkland and a busy events calendar.
The capital of Saskatchewan, Regina was originally called Pile O’Bones in Cree before it was renamed in honour of Queen Victoria, and fossils are still a big draw to the city.
The Royal Saskatchewan Museum has a large collection of fossils and bones, including the world’s largest T-Rex skeleton, and a detailed First Nations gallery.
Regina is centred around a huge park in the heart of the city – Wascana Centre has paths around the lake of the same name. The Regina Symphony Orchestra is Canada’s oldest, regularly performing in the Conexus Arts Center in the park.
The RCMP Heritage Centre charts the history of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Mounties, known for their distinctive red coats and black horses, are based in Regina with regular parades during the summer.
Other historical attractions include the Victorian Government House and the elegant Legislative Building.
