Not to be confused with the New York State town that hosted the famous festival, Woodstock in Vermont is renowned as one of the most charming villages in New England, filled with historic architecture, covered bridges, a town green, and locally-run restaurants and boutiques.

One of the highlights of Woodstock is the mansion and gardens of Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park, named after two of the town’s most famous benefactors. This extensive estate includes the peak of Mount Tom, a popular hike along a four-mile trail.

The scenery around Woodstock is spectacular. A highlight is the Quechee Gorge, the deepest canyon in Vermont with spectacular views of the Ottauquechee River. The nearby VINS Nature Centre has an impressive Forest Canopy Walk 100 feet above the forest and a protected population of birds of prey.

The local produce is excellent in Woodstock, so visits to farms are recommended, including the 200-acre Billings Farm & Museum and Sugarbush Farm

Vermont has some 104 traditional covered bridges, the highest density in the USA. Three of these are in Woodstock, while the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge which links Vermont and New Hampshire is the longest in the country.
