Hawai’i

Overview & Highlights

Get away from the tourist crowds and immerse yourself in the exquisite nature and culture of the world-famous Hawaiian Islands. This unforgettable trip includes a seven-night expedition cruise across four of the islands: Moloka’i, Maui, Lāna’i and the island of Hawai’i (Big Island), and includes a unique variety of both sea and land-based adventures.

Explore astounding marine life through snorkeling and kayaking trips, take a skiff to see the untouched beauty of the island’s coastlines, meet with locals who still practice ancient traditions and hike through pristine valleys and private volcano trails—all led by naturalist guides and enthusiastic crew who follow strict guidelines to ensure Hawai’i’s wildlife and landscapes remain undisturbed.

You’ll be aboard the Safari Explorer, one of the smallest ships to service Hawai’i for expedition cruising, designed to get you off the boat and into either the water or wild as often as possible. Accommodating no more than 36 guests, you’ll be offered an intimate experience, complete with modern comforts yet removed from the crowds of traditional cruises. This nimble yacht allows for easy access to hidden coves and narrow coastlines that larger ships simply can’t reach, truly offering a once in a lifetime experience.

You’ll start your journey off the Kona coast on the island of Hawai’i and end on the shores of Moloka’i, experiencing the wildlife, scenery and culture native to Hawaii along the way. The itinerary is always flexible, ensuring the crew can respond to spontaneous wildlife sightings, enhancing every moment of the journey.

This unique voyage operates between November and April, to overlap with the peak whale-watching season from December to March.

Note that the itinerary travels from south to north (from the Big Island to Moloka’i) or north to south (from Moloka’i to the Big Island) depending on the departure date.

If you’d like to visit the Hawaiian Islands but an expedition cruise isn’t quite the right fit, contact us for ideas about how to enjoy Hawai’i on a land-based adventure. Whatever your preferred travel style, we can help to explore the possibilities and find your perfect tailor-made trip.

Our expert's opinion

“If you’re thinking of visiting the Hawaiian Islands and want an experience away from the tourist hotspots, I can’t recommend this holiday enough. Having previously spent time on both Honolulu and Maui, this cruise gave me access to things I would have never experienced otherwise: up-close encounters with astounding marine life, breathtaking scenery through private trails and hands-on experiences with native Hawaiians living according to their ancient traditions. The Pacific Ocean has the clearest, turquoise water and waking up to tropical sunshine is one of life’s true luxuries. ”
