Adirondacks

The Adirondacks are the USA’s largest park outside Alaska with more than 100 mountain peaks and endless hiking trails past forests, lakes and rivers.

View Holidays

This park of some 5,000 square miles in northern New York State is a haven for a wide range of activities – from whitewater rafting to mountain biking, climbing and fly-fishing.

One of the top destinations is Lake George, known as the Queen of the American Lakes, with more than 100 miles of stunning shoreline and 300 islands. Cruising or kayaking on the lake is a spectacular experience, while a cultural highlight is the Fort William Henry Museum, a replica of the original fort built by the British in the 1750's, immortalised in the film Last of the Mohicans.

Lake Placid is another major resort, made famous by hosting the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, and boasts 50km of skiing trails. The town’s sporting heritage can be discovered at Lake Placid Olympic Museum just outside town.

High Falls Gorge near Lake Placid is one of the most beautiful canyons in the region, where four waterfalls can be viewed from a series of walkways at the base of Whiteface Mountain. The mountain itself is one of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, commanding spectacular panoramic views. Whiteface Mountain is also a busy ski resort in winter, and popular for biking and scenic drives in summer. Don’t miss riding on the Cloudsplitter, a spectacular high-speed gondola open April to September.

One of the most dramatic views in the Adirondacks is Ausable Chasm, a gorge with a two-mile-long waterfall. View the gorge from above along cable bridges before floating down the Ausable River on a raft or tube.
