Situated nearly 400km east of Vancouver, nestled between the Cascade and the Columbia mountain ranges, the Thompson Okanagan region is celebrated for its spectacular scenery, welcoming communities and wealth of outdoor pursuits. Offering an extraordinary variety of experiences within the heart of British Columbia’s interior, the region encompasses two very different valleys—stretching from the rugged landscapes and abundant wildlife of the Thompson to the lush vineyards, sun-drenched orchards and glistening lakes of the Okanagan.

The North Thompson Valley boasts wild, dramatic scenery. Wells Gray Provincial Park is one of the area’s great natural treasures, home to more than 40 waterfalls, including the spectacular Helmcken Falls, as well as forest, lakes and diverse wildlife.  Just north, Mount Robson rises to 3,954m making for an impressive centrepiece among the surrounding wilderness, while just south lies the alpine resort of Sun Peaks. Equally alluring in summer, its beautiful mountain scenery and renowned mountain biking trails on Tod and Sundance Mountains attract outdoor enthusiasts, alongside wildflower-filled hiking routes, golf and a welcoming pedestrian village. In winter, the resort transforms into one of British Columbia’s premier ski destinations, with an extensive network of slopes spread across three mountains.

At the heart of the Thompson Valley lies Kamloops, a friendly town surrounded by rolling grasslands, forested hills and dramatic river valleys. Once a fur-trading and Gold Rush settlement, Kamloops is now a lively hub for outdoor adventure, with more than 2,000 hours of sunshine each year. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing and golfing are popular ways to explore the surrounding countryside, while riverside trails and a relaxed food and drink scene provide plenty to enjoy in town. Set at the meeting point of the North and South Thompson Rivers, Kamloops also makes a natural gateway between the wilderness of the north and the vineyards of the Okanagan.
