This unforgettable 15-night journey centres around a 7-night Inside Passage Cruise, launching from and returning to Vancouver. Using this beautiful, well-connected city as both a departure and arrival point makes it easier for visitors to add on an additional experience, such as taking the famed Rocky Mountaineer train through some of Canada’s most impressive natural beauty before or after the voyage starts. The combination means you effectively get a two-in-one holiday of a lifetime.
On this sample itinerary, you’ll start in Calgary, getting a brief glimpse at Canada’s past and present before heading deep into Alberta’s breath-taking natural surroundings to the town of Banff and Banff National Park. Here, you’ll get to explore Canada’s oldest protected area and most visited national park with 1,600km of hiking trails and home to 53 species of mammals, including black bears, grizzlies, moose, bighorn sheep and elk, before spending two nights next to the iconic Lake Louise.
Then, you’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer for a wonderfully scenic journey from Lake Louise to Kamloops before continuing on to British Columbia’s multicultural capital, Vancouver. You’ll get 2 days to enjoy one of the world’s greenest cities before boarding your Alaska Inside Passage Cruise during which you’ll explore Alaska’s pristine wilderness from the water.
Glide through the splendid Tracy Arm Inlet and spend a full day exploring Glacier Bay National Park, an area most ships can only visit fleetingly. Visit Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan, and take in the glacier-cut fjords, lush rainforests, and diverse wildlife of the Inside Passage.
This cruise puts added attention on cultural experiences to go alongside the natural wonders that tend to be the focus onboard most vessels operating in Alaska. For example, passengers have the opportunity to learn about gold rush history in Skagway and Native American culture in Ketchikan.
Aboard the Koningsdam or Zaandam (depending on your departure date), you’ll find a completely absorbing experience – as well as modern distractions and comforts, should you or your travel companions want them – where you’ll be surrounded by pure, untouched nature at its finest. They, along with their sister ships the Noordam and Nieuw Amsterdam – which operate some of the other available routes in the region – are the largest vessels in our Alaska portfolio. Their greater size means more space to roam, extra stability, added facilities, additional dining options, more varied activities and often, excellent value for money.
If this particular voyage or itinerary doesn’t quite suit your needs, there are plenty of alternative routes and ships available and many other land-based journeys that can be added on. Only a fraction of the possibilities are showcased on our website, so, whatever your preferred travel style, get in touch to explore the options and find the adventure that’s right for you.

Our expert's opinion
“If you’re thinking of visiting Alaska and Canada, I can’t recommend this holiday enough. The vessel was incredible and I had access to a wide and impressive range of tours and excursions wherever we landed. The wildlife encounters were incredible — we saw black and brown bears, humpback whales, and even orcas. And cruising through the glaciers and fjords with ongoing expert commentary made it all the more memorable. I highly recommend visiting in September – you’ll get the best weather on both sea and land.”
