Bespoke Kenai Peninsula Holidays

The Kenai Peninsula offers spectacular glacial scenery and unforgettable whale-watching in the surrounding fjords.

View Holidays

The Kenai Peninsula is a spectacular addition to a tailor-made Alaska holiday, enclosing one of Alaska’s most beautiful national parks and a cluster of attractive ports. Kenai Fjords National Park encompasses nearly 600,000 acres of rugged mountains, stunning fjords, and the vast Harding Icefield that stretches over 900 square miles. This is the largest icefield entirely within US borders with 40 tidewater glaciers extending from the mountains to the sea.

Kenai has diverse wildlife including humpback whales, orcas, fin whales, Dall’s porpoises, sea otters and Steller sea lions. The peninsula is also home to black and brown bears, moose, lynx, and wolverines as well as some 200 species of birds. Kenai is a popular destination for kayaking, biking, hiking and wildlife watching in summer, and cross-country skiing and dog sledding in winter.

The best base for exploring the park is Seward. Named after the man who arranged the purchase of Alaska from Russia, this harbour town with its colourful murals has an idyllic location on Resurrection Bay, flanked by towering mountains.

One of the most impressive glaciers near Seward is the half-mile wide Exit Glacier. Hikers can ascend 1,000 feet over four miles along the Harding Icefield Trail for breathtaking views. Another highlight is a close-up view of Aialik Glacier, which regularly calves huge chunks of ice into the sea.

An alternative base to Seward is Homer in the west of Kenai, renowned as the halibut fishing capital of the world with stunning views over Kachemak Bay State Park to the Grewingk Glacier.

The town of Kenai is famous for salmon fishing, and visitors can spot beluga whales and harbour seals in the Kenai River.
