Hotel Nell
A 106-room boutique hotel in DC’s most exciting neighbourhood, Hotel Nell sits in a lovingly converted 1930s seed company warehouse in the Union Market District. It’s a youthful, design-led alternative to the city’s more traditional hotel options – and one of the better-value stays in northeast DC.
The building has history. Originally home to the F.W. Bolgiano Seed Company, Hotel Nell now channels that industrial past into a loft-like aesthetic that feels coherent throughout: exposed brick, warm lighting, foliage-rich common areas, and rooms that lean into moody minimalism rather than generic polish.
All 106 rooms – including loft-style family rooms with bunk beds and basement rooms with street-level windows for those who want to feel suitably tucked away – are individually styled with 50-inch smart TVs and thoughtful basics.
Dining comes from three sources: Bolgiano’s Pantry for farm-fresh breakfast and lunch, the Treehouse Rooftop for drinks, dinner and brunch with a jungle-escape vibe, and Singing Tiger Noodle Den for karaoke nights that are exactly as good as they sound. Capitol Hill, the National Portrait Gallery, and Ford’s Theatre are all within a 20-minute walk; Union Station is practically next door.
