Hawai’i

Few places can so readily conjure up images of a tropical paradise – and with golden beaches, turquoise waters and swaying palms – Hawai’i promises what it delivers.

View Holidays

Considered the most remote island chain in the world, the state of Hawai’i is a destination like no other, offering breathtaking natural beauty and a multicultural melting pot you won’t find anywhere else.

Situated in the North Pacific Ocean about five hours from California, Hawai’i is made up of eight major volcanic islands – six of which are inha15bitable: O’ahu, Maui, Kauai, Moloka’i, Lāna’i and the island of Hawai’i – several atolls and numerous smaller islets. Also referred to as the Hawaiian Islands, the state revolves around the bustling capital, Honolulu, located on O’ahu, and charming towns, fertile backcountry and unspoiled rain forests are found across the islands.

Water-based activities abound for all skill levels. From snorkelling and surfing to a scenic sunset cruise, you’ll even find respite listening to the gentle hum of the waves on the golden shores. Dolphin, turtle and whale-watching is common too – and chances are you won’t even have to plan a tour to see them. But make sure you plan to sail by Kaua’i’s breathtaking Nāpali Coast.

Turquoise waters aside, there’s plenty to do on land as well. Take a scenic drive – no trip to Maui is complete without a trip along the famous ‘Road to Hana’ – or ride a horse through O’ahu’s stunning valleys at Kualoa Ranch. Hawai’i is renowned for its famous hiking trails, so don’t miss hiking up Waikīkī’s iconic Diamond Head, Kauai’s beautiful Waimea Canyon and the Big Island’s world-famous Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, home to two of the world’s most active volcanoes.

While in the state, make sure to also take part in Hawai’i’s numerous cultural activities. Start with O’ahu’s Polynesian Cultural Center to learn all about Hawaiian traditions and the various Polynesian cultures that have contributed to Hawai’i. Or head to Honolulu’s Bishop Museum to see the world’s largest collection of Polynesian artefacts. In spring, the Merrie Monarch Festival brings together the best hula groups for a visually spectacular competition. From learning how to make leis from fragrant orchid and plumeria to discovering the basic steps of hula – you’ll even find opportunities to get involved at your resort or hotel. Before leaving, attend a luau to truly experience Hawaiian song and dance, and feast on traditionally-prepared dishes – it’s an essential part of any visit.
