Charlevoix

Charlevoix is famous for its historic ports, sumptuous cuisine and breathtaking scenery in Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie.

View Holidays

The region of Charlevoix has beautiful scenery, attractive harbours and delicious food along the Route des Saveurs.

The capital of the region is Baie-Saint-Paul, an attractive port and birthplace of the famous Cirque du Soleil circus troupe. The colourful main street Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste is lined with art galleries and the town filled with gourmet restaurants. The Contemporary Art Museum is a highlight with over 3,000 works.

Foodies will enjoy the Route des Saveurs (Flavour Trail), which runs for about 70km from Petite-Rivière-Saint-François up to Malbaie, taking in wineries, breweries, cafés, restaurants and farms, sampling everything from cider to cheese, fish, mushrooms and organic meats.

The town of La Malbaie further north, named ‘bad bay’ by explorer Samuel de Champlain when he failed to anchor here in the early 17th century, is quite the opposite of its name – an attractive, historic port at the confluence of La Malbaie and St Lawrence rivers, overlooked by the chateau-like Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu.

Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie is the most stunning national park in this region, and this deep gorge has some of the highest rock faces in eastern Canada, up to 800 metres. Experienced hikers can tackle the challenging 10km Acropole des Draveurs trail, taking in waterfalls and incredible views, or take it slower in the valley on a cruise, canoeing or kayaking trip.
