Bespoke White Mountains Holidays 2026 & 2027

Explore the spectacular forested peaks and waterfalls of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, and take a trip on one of the world’s steepest railways.

View Holidays

New England’s interior is famous for the tapestry of bright colours on show in Autumn, and New Hampshire’s White Mountains are a particularly beautiful haven year-round for hikers, climbers and skiers.

This vast mountain range is part of the Appalachians, covering nearly 800,000 acres across 87 miles in New Hampshire and western Maine, offering endless hiking and cycling trails through wonderful scenery. The region’s waterfalls are a particular highlight – New Hampshire has more than 100 falls, best discovered in spring or autumn.

A highlight of your New England holiday could be a trip on the Cog Railway, the second steepest rack railway in the world. Completed in 1869, it reaches the summit of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the north-eastern USA at 1,916m, commanding stunning views on clear days.

Other great train rides include the Hobo Railway along the Pemigewasset River, and the Conway Scenic Railroad across the Crawford Notch.

One of the most beautiful drives in New England is along the 32-mile Kancamagus Highway through the White Mountains National Forest between the attractive towns of Conway and Lincoln.

Hikers can tackle parts of the Appalachian Trail that stretches from Maine to Georgia, while skiers and winter sports enthusiasts flock to the slopes in winter.

The region has many charming towns including Sugar Hill, famous for its maple syrup and offering panoramic views from Sunset Hill Ridge, and North Woodstock near the Lost River Gorge, where a trail leads through a canyon past waterfalls to a dozen boulder caves.
