Our expert's opinion
“Maui and O’ahu are my two favourite islands for the breathtaking natural beauty and welcoming people. O’ahu has Honolulu, which is a really unique multicultural city with plenty of opportunities for learning about Hawaiian culture and just being outdoors. Everything is open air – even the main shopping centre which is such a different experience from what I’m used to. Then there’s Waikīkī Beach, which has this wonderful energy that just makes you want to get outside and run into the water. No matter which beach you go to across the Hawaiian Islands, you’ll be met with clear, turquoise waters and clean golden sands – it’s incredible! Maui is even more spectacular than O’ahu and whether you decide to do the ‘Road to Hanā’ drive or take a trip around West Maui, you’ll definitely be in for a treat! The beaches and towns are wonderful. Make sure to head up to Haleakalā too while you’re in Maui – the terrain makes you feel like you’re on another planet, and the views are out of this world. ”
