The Palmwood Inn

The Palmwood stands entirely apart from Kaua’i’s larger resort world by virtue of its size, intention, and aesthetic. Perched on a secluded five-acre estate in Moloa’a – an undiscovered north shore enclave – it has just three rooms, each one blending Japanese-inspired design, natural materials and a secluded intimacy. Inspired by the mountain ryokans of Japan, The Palmwood is simultaneously luxurious and unhurried. Rooms range from the East Room (with its private garden and hot tub) to the signature Bungalow, a 500-square-foot sanctuary with teak rain shower, wet bar, and a private gazebo. Each morning begins with a fresh, locally sourced gourmet breakfast (a highlight for guests who return again and again) prepared with intention and served as the day’s first real pleasure.

From here, Moloa’a Beach is a five-minute drive, Hanalei and the rest of the north shore are easily reachable, and the inn’s hosts are on hand with thoughtful guidance on beaches, cultural sites and the island’s quieter corners. Snorkel gear, beach towels, and coolers are available to borrow, and an outdoor pool offers a tranquil complement to the surrounding landscape.
