Inn of the Turquoise Bear
A historic gem that captures the distinctive character of Santa Fe, the Inn of the Turquoise Bear offers beautiful terraced gardens, warm hospitality, charming adobe architecture and an intimate atmosphere.
Set within a rambling Spanish-Pueblo Revival adobe estate, the inn occupies the former home of poet and writer Witter Bynner, with parts of the property dating back to the early 1800s. Surrounded by towering pines, colourful gardens and views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the estate retains its authentic Northern New Mexico character and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Rooms and suites are individually decorated, each with its own character and thoughtfully restored to reflect the history of the property. All rooms feature private bathrooms, air-conditioning and a fireplace, with many also offering private entrances, separate sitting areas or other distinctive features. Guests can choose between nine rooms and suites, named after some of the writers, artists and musicians associated with Bynner and the inn, including Georgia O’Keeffe, Ansel Adams, D.H. Lawrence and Willa Cather. The property’s seven rooms with private garden entrances open onto the inn’s lush grounds, while the Ansel Adams Suite provides additional space for a more spacious stay.
On-site, the Inn of the Turquoise Bear offers plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy its peaceful setting. Guests can wander through the acre of terraced gardens, unwind beneath the towering trees or gather in the historic estate’s inviting common areas. A multi-course gourmet breakfast is served each morning, complemented by house-baked treats at tea time and an evening wine reception. The inn also offers complimentary on-site parking and is within walking distance of the historic Santa Fe Plaza, making it an ideal base for exploring the city’s galleries, restaurants, shops and cultural attractions while still offering a secluded retreat.
Our expert's opinion
“The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff really made my stay. The fact that I wasn’t right in the middle of town, but a short walking distance away gave me the right amount of peace I was looking for on my holiday.”
