Amangiri

This unique luxury hotel blends effortlessly into the wild, ancient desertscape bordering southern Utah and Arizona. Amangiri is a modernist sandstone retreat in 900 acres of Navajo country, in a protected valley with sweeping views of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. A short distance from Lake Powell, its luxurious ambience contrasts with the surrounding starkly dramatic canyons.

Accommodation is in either spacious, minimalist suites or canvas-roofed pavilions at adjacent Camp Sarika. Suites are built with natural materials of white stone and timbers. Each suite has an outdoor lounge and fireplace with desert views, while some also have a private pool or roof terrace. All have Wifi, TVs, DVD players, iPod docks, bathrobes and sage-infused bath products.

The hotel has a stunning heated swimming pool wrapping around an escarpment of sandstone rock, plus a hot tub, fire pit, fitness centre, lounge, library, art gallery and games room. A highlight is the beautiful Aman Spa, luxuriously decked out with treatment rooms, a water pavilion with pool, yoga pavilion, floatation room, steam room, sauna and cold plunge pool.

The Pavilion restaurant has an open-plan dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace overlooking the pool. The menu serves innovative takes on southwest staples, while the bar has a well-stocked wine cellar and serves signature cocktails such as Prickly Pear Margaritas and Sage Mojitos.

This all-season resort is a short distance from the shores of Lake Powell, surrounded by iconic landmarks of the Great West, including the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce and Zion national parks. Amangiri offers a range of outdoor activities, including tours of Antelope Canyon, horse-riding and via ferrata climbing.
