The best time to go to Carlsbad is during spring or autumn when the weather is comfortable for outdoor exploration and the Caverns run their evening bat flight programme. Daytime highs run in the 20s and crowds are also manageable.

Summer is peak tourist season and has hot desert temperatures, and winter is quiet but night-time temperatures regularly hit freezing.
