The most northerly county in New Jersey, Sussex County has beautiful scenery of mountains, forests, lakes and rivers.

The biggest draw of New Jersey’s Sussex County is High Point State Park, covering 15,000 acres between the border with New York State and the Delaware River.

There are spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding mountain ranges, forests and farmland from the highest point in the state, High Point Monument (550m). The obelisk monument was built in 1930 to honour war veterans. In winter, the park is popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Other highlights of Sussex County include Mountain Creek, a popular resort for skiing in winter, and hiking and biking in summer, while Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg has an extensive exhibition and walking tour through the former mine.
