Boasting some of North Carolina’s most stunning mountain scenery, Chimney Rock State Park is home to one of the great symbols of Western exploration, Chimney Rock, a towering 315-foot rock formation watching over the North Platte River Valley. Dating back millions of years to the Oligocene Age, a climb up Chimney Rock offers 75-mile long breathtaking views over the picturesque Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. Besides the beautiful scenery, the park offers excellent hiking trails for all levels and an abundance of native flora and fauna.

After a climb or elevator ride up Outcropping Trail to the Chimney Rock summit, explore exhibits on Chimney Rock’s role in the greatest voluntary migration in the history of mankind along the Oregon Trail at the park’s visitor centre. Take a hike to see the beautiful Hickory Nut Falls, and head down to Lake Lure for a day or two of beachside relaxation at this idyllic man-made body of water off the Rocky Broad River.
