Start with the city’s most iconic symbol: the Golden Gate Bridge. You can walk or bike across its impressive span while taking in the breathtaking views of the Bay Area to the wildlife haven of Marin Headlands, or to the bohemian bay area town of Sausalito. You can also stay on the city side and stroll over to the architecturally astounding San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts. Despite its famously steep hills and 3-mile long Lombard Street, San Francisco is surprisingly easy to get around. Classic cable cars and historic streetcars are a fun and scenic way to travel around the city, and San Francisco’s BART metro system travels both within and beyond the boundaries of the city – even connecting to the international airport. You won’t need a car to get around, and that’s a good thing as San Francisco’s neighbourhoods have so much to see and do, you won’t want to be travelling any other way than by foot (or bike).

From the multicultural Mission District to the root of San Francisco’s liberalism, Haight-Ashbury, you’ll find the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, and that the bustling plazas of Union Square and Ghirardelli Square are prime locales for both dining and shopping. San Francisco is a leader in the culinary arts, so make sure you get a full taste of the city during your stay whether you head to award-winning bakeries, decade-old establishments or noteworthy newcomers.
