In summer, the city bursts to life with festivals, enjoying up to 17 hours of sunshine, and in winter it’s a good base to see the Northern Lights.

Edmonton also has a huge amount of urban parkland, the pick of which is the North Saskatchewan River Valley, 22 times the size of New York City’s Central Park, including the Fort Edmonton Park. For some retail therapy, head to West Edmonton Mall, the largest in North America.
A great day trip is to Elk Island National Park, half an hour’s drive from the city, with the largest populations of elk and bison in Canada.
