Manitoba
Experience an extraordinary wildlife adventure in the remote splendour of Churchill, located on the vast shores of Hudson Bay in northern Manitoba—one of the most remarkable places on Earth to observe polar bears in the wild.
Each autumn, Churchill becomes a truly spellbinding destination as the world’s largest land carnivores gather along the coastline, waiting for the sea ice to form. From the safety and comfort of specialised Tundra Buggies, you can witness these magnificent animals up close, watching their natural behaviours unfold across the stark, beautiful tundra.
Your journey begins in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s welcoming capital, before flying north to Churchill. Upon arrival, enjoy time to unwind and explore this fascinating subarctic community, where the rugged landscape and unique local culture give the town its distinctive character.
You will then transfer to the Churchill Wildlife Management Area for an unforgettable stay at the Tundra Buggy Lodge, set deep within prime polar bear habitat. Over the following three days, venture out aboard heated, all‑terrain Tundra Buggies equipped with comfortable seating, onboard washrooms, and outdoor viewing platforms. Your expert guides will lead you to the best wildlife‑viewing locations, where polar bears gather as the winter icepack begins to form on Hudson Bay. These immersive days on the tundra offer unparalleled opportunities for photography, observation, and a deeper understanding of the Arctic ecosystem.
After your time in the north, fly back to Winnipeg for an overnight stay, with the option to explore the city’s world‑class museums, vibrant culinary scene, and cultural landmarks before your journey concludes.
This tour operates exclusively in October and November, when polar bear viewing in Churchill is at its very best.
Our expert's opinion
“Autumn is the best time to watch polar bears in Hudson Bay and it’s such a unique spectacle to see them crowd onto the shoreline waiting for the icepack to form. On my tour, curious bears came right up to our tundra vehicle – it really is an amazing experience for wildlife lovers.”
